The Process of Mixing & Mastering Explained

These are crucial for your record to get the radio quality it needs

If you’re an independent artist, you understand that music creation and production is both a creative and technical process. For many independent artists, it can be difficult to find access to the high-quality equipment and services that allow them to perfect the mixing and mastering of their music. This can be frustrating, but with BabiMusic, we not only offer professional mixing and mastering services, but also lease and sell instrumentals and beats.

What Is Mixing?

During the music creation process, each element of a song is recorded separately. Mixing is the process of taking each single element on a song, think vocals, guitar, drums, or other instrumentals and putting them together. During mixing, each element is addressed separately to ensure optimal fidelity. The elements are then brought together, adjusting the different volume levels to ensure that the  instruments and vocals work together to make a cohesive music experience.

What Is Mastering?

After a song is mixed, it’s time for the next step: mastering. During mastering, the track that was put together during the mixing stage is treated as one whole element. The audio engineer focuses on finishing the song to optimize the overall sound of the track. When putting together an entire album, the engineer will also work to ensure a certain consistency exists across all the songs on the album, and prepare it for distribution.

Bringing it All Together

In order for any artist to have a finished, clean sounding product, their music should first be mixed and mastered. When these two processes are brought together, it allows the audio engineer to perfect the song on more than one level. During the mixing process, the engineer focuses on each element separately, and then once brought together, the engineer refines the song as a whole creating a beautifully finished product that is ready for distribution.
