What is an instrumental lease?
This concept basically encompasses an instrumental track that can be sold to more than one person. The word lease means " rent ", i. e-means that this instrumentation could be implemented by more than one person.
A perfect example would be the following: I have on my website a beat lease called "Beat0002". Charles enters my website and buys it from me. On my page it does not disappear, since it is still available to be purchased by another person.
Differences between leases and exclusives
The main advantage of the leases is the price, they are much more accessible. However, they differ from exclusives in the following way:
-Format. The format is the file you receive when you buy the instrument. Depending on the lease you purchase the lease, you would receive a .mp3, .wav and stems files. However, with the exclusive license you will receive all the files of the instrumental in WAV tracks. You will get each sound of the beat separately so you can make any kind of modification: change volumes, add, remove sounds, make cuts, add effects, which definitely enhance your mix and master. In addition to the tracks you will receive the whole beat in a high quality .WAV and .MP3 file.
-Commercial uses. With the instrumental that you have acquired you can make different uses: record a track and send it to the radio, sell physical copies, digital distribution on streaming platforms, use the instrumental for a video, among others. These are commercial uses that the beat you have purchased can eventually have, but depending on the license, you may be limited. On the other hand, with the exclusive license you are able to use the instrumental however you want, but if you buy the lease license you will only be able to make 1 commercial use.
-Limit of distributed copies. Each producer sets different limits, check them before buying. With the exclusive license you will not have to worry because it is unlimited, but if you buy a lease and it says 3000 copies, you will have to purchase another lease after reaching this number.
Exclusive instrumentals can be purchased or not directly from the beats section depending on their creator. Some of them will have to send a mail to acquire the license. Also, you can always upgrade from a lease to an exclusive contract.
Who should buy leases and who should buy exclusives?
Not everyone should buy the exclusive, if you have a limited budget and you don't want to monetize the track you record or you don't care that a few others have bought the same instrumental before, you should buy the lease license.
However, if you are going to release an edited album or oficial single, you expect to monetize in several ways the track you record or you simply want an instrumental to be yours, you should definitely buy the exclusive license.
